Downloadable Research Ethics CoursesThe Advanced Certificate Program in Research Ethics for Central and Eastern Europe, in an effort to make its course materials available to a wider audience, is formatting its three on-line course in Moodle, an open source e-learning software platform that can be used free of charge. The three courses are International Bioethics, International Research Ethics 1 (available in April 2012) and International Research Ethics 2 (available in July 2012).In the near future, the Program will be making translated versions of selected course materials available in Russian, Lithuanian, Romanian, Georgian, and Serbian and Croatian. Courses International Bioethics This course provides an overview of the historical and theoretical foundations of international bioethics. Topics include: the history and development of key international institutions, pivotal policies, theoretical frameworks informing international bioethics and research ethics, and case studies of specific topics in international bioethics. COURSE OVERVIEW | SAMPLE WEEK SYLLABUS | SCREENSHOTS | DOWNLOAD COURSE International Research Ethics 1 This course explores some of the prominent ethical, social, and legal issues in research ethics. Students learn to analyze individual cases, to use ethical principles and frameworks to make informed and reasoned judgements about the proper conduct of research, and to design and teach courses on the responsible conduct of research. Course materials will be available for download in April 2012. COURSE OVERVIEW | SAMPLE WEEK SYLLABUS International Research Ethics 2 A continuation of International Research Ethics 1, this course provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to function on research ethics committees, to understand the legal and ethical complexities of contemporary research issues occurring in their home countries and institutions, and to develop practical approaches for dealing with urgent ethical issues in the local research environment.
